Aberdeen Homelessness Strategy

Aberdeen City Council

Councils have a legal duty to help those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

You can be homeless if you have no home of your own. For example, you may be living temporarily with family or friends or you are threatened with being made homeless. You can also be considered homeless if where you live is insecure or unsafe. You might be living in uninhabitable conditions, or somewhere you are at risk of violence. You do not have to be on the streets to be homeless.

Where to go for help:

Go to the Homelessness Section in St. Nicholas House (ground floor), explain your situation and you will be given assistance. Alternatively, you can contact them by phone. Homelessness staff will give you free and confidential advice, help with form filling and can arrange temporary accommodation. They will also, if needed, put you in touch with resettlement and support agencies.

If you become homeless out of normal office hours hours, at weekends or on public holidays, please contact the Council’s Out of Hours Service on 01224 693350. A Homelessness Standby Officer will get in touch with you and if you have nowhere to stay will organise emergency temporary accommodation.

Please note that this information should be considered an overview of Aberdeen City Council's homelessness service and obligations to those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.  It is by no means comprehensive.  Each application is unique and dependent on individual circumstances.  Any queries arising should be addressed to the Homelessness Section.
